What I Want

Some people live their entire lives knowing what they want. When they're kids, they want to go play and so they go play, or at least try. When they are older, they want to be in a certain major, so they take all the courses to achieve a degree in that area of study. Then, when they leave college, they know what job they want and where to look, so they go to it.

I have each and every one of those people on a special list. I write it in blood.

To this day, I have changed my mind about what I want to do so many times that I'm starting to get the inclination that I have no idea what I want. I've wanted to be a paleontologist, archaeologist, firefighter, police officer, forensic specialist, biology teacher, English teacher, writer, journalist, comic book writer, actor, filmmaker, mathematician, bounty hunter, chef, and a pilot. Mind you, this is in the past five years.

It's time for me to latch on to something - to follow a goal no matter how impractical or silly it might be. I need a focus, and that focus is writing real comics. Pretty obvious, that goal of mine, huh?

Now to just figure out what I'll be doing with my Biology degree in the meantime...

Sprung a Leak

My mind has been a flurry of activity these past few days. It's time to sort some of them out.

  1. Carbon and Space Website - This has been on my mind for months now, actually. I seem to be doing well on DrunkDuck, but not well enough to warrant taking out webspace. Maybe I should focus more on advertising right now, getting the name out there, THEN maybe make a website.
  2. Getting back into Broken Frontier - Maybe Frederick will take me back? They just made over the site, so there's always the possibility. I did leave them high and dry a while back, but it may not have been too serious. I just don't have the cash this week to buy comics and write reviews on them. That's why the gods created uTorrent, I guess.
  3. Getting back into Power of the Press - I can always write George and tell him that I could still use him. The only problem there is that I'm not so sure if the comic will get picked up. I think that the story has merit, but the issue is that I don't know the right people. I have no connections to act as a bit of insurance, or perhaps to bump the submission along to the right people.
  4. Comic Industry Internships - Valiant is currently looking for a full-time intern, and Marvel and DC always accept applications. Problem is, I don't live in NYC or LA. Maybe I could move there in a few years?
That's what's in my head. That and bills...

Cross-Post

I've been wondering for a while, since I saw Watchmen actually, what other comic book properties can I look forward to seeing in theaters. Here's a short list:

X-Men: Origins - Wolverine
Iron Man 2
Thor
The First Avenger: Captain America
The Avengers
Spider-Man 4 (though after 3, I might pass)
The Losers
Batman 3
Green Lantern
Sin City 2 (hopefully Frank Miller will stay out of the directorial process)
The Goon (which makes me want to finally read it)
Green Hornet

And after all that, I have to wonder, is Supermax (the Green Arrow prision movie) still going to be made?

In other, more related-to-the-comic news, I have decided to yield to the almighty Facebook - where people who read my jarbled mess of digital brush strokes and nonsensical words can congregate and, perhaps, socialize.

The Rorschach Breakfast

I woke up this morning giddy with excitement for the release of Watchmen. As I lay in bed this morning, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, and wonder what I could do today that would celebrate the occasion. Then a divine image came to my mind:

Rorschach Breakfast. Egg-based face. French toast hat. One word: AWESOME.

So, I ran to the kitchen to get started. First, I took inventory. This is what I needed:

2 Eggs (one for the mask, one for the french toast)
Milk
Ground Cinnamon
Ground Nutmeg (optional)
Bread (I used Honey Wheat bread)
Butter
Red and Blue Food Coloring
1 large pan
3 small bowls
1 fork for mixing

I started with the hat:

Take one egg, about 1/4 cup of milk, cinnamon and nutmeg, and mix in a small bowl.

Next, take a slice of bread, and cut it into the shape of Rorschach's fedora.

Dip the hat in the egg mixture, but don't hold it down too long or else it will get soggy. Place in a greased pan (greased with butter, preferably), and cook both sides evenly.

I got fancy and added a slice of the crust as the little ribbon thingy on the fedora. It should look something like this.

Place the hat in a microwave (DON'T COOK) until finished with eggs.
Now, you'll have enough mixture to make a couple of french toast slices, so I suggest taking advantage of that.

Now that the hard part was out of the way, I began prepping the eggs:

Take the second egg, and separate the yolk from the whites.

Beat the egg yolk until completely gooey.

Then add red and blue food coloring. Beat again. It should look like this.

Take egg whites to the previously used pan, re-grease it, then place the whites into the pan.

The whites will cook really fast, so have your black yolks ready!
Drizzle yolks onto the cooked whites in whatever pattern you choose. Or, if you're really cool, drizzle onto one side, and fold it over after cooking for the real Rorschach look.

Don't worry about flipping the egg - the yolks will cook fine on top.
Now just slide the egg onto a plate (and fold and unfold if you are that cool person), re-heat the hat in the microwave, and add to plate.
It should look a little like this.

Now, kick back, bust out your copy of Watchmen, and enjoy!
